On the 5th May this year (2009), the EU voted 550 to 49 in favour of a ban on the sale of seal products and in March, the Russians announced a ban on hunting seals younger than 1 year old in the White Sea Area, effectively ending the seal hunt in that area.
Just the Canadians to convince now who's government allowed the slaughter of more than 217,000 seals last year, 98% of which were pups.
