Green Campaigners Outed As Energy Wasters - yes

I have long believed that green commitments run only skin deep.

Take a look at this story. http://www.greenbuildingpress.co.uk/article.php?category_id=34&article_id=123

The problem is that we humans are only human and we also believe that the universe revolves around ourselves. When, even serious green campaigners begin to get their message across they become infected with power and fame and then fall into the new green celebrity trap.

Lots of foreign trips ensue on the pretence of 'spreading the message' or 'taking the campaign to the mainstream'. they end up with enormous carbon footprints - a lot larger than the people they are preaching too.

Completely forgetting the purpose that got them noticed in the first place. the real greenies are those you never hear of and just go about fulfilling their plan of living more lightly.

Agree. IT probably a necessary exception. Just indespensible. Hypothesis I work on. As far as I am concerned travel, airplanes and cars oh and football are all out.

I am in aggreement with the author of the article, you wanted us to check out. If I am going to look to you for "green" answers, then you AND your living quarters better be on tip top shape, so you can show us how to live. You know.......don't just talk the talk but walk the talk......or something like that!

The Green Building Press is in reasonable shape to carry the green banner. We are totally offgrid (heating, electricity and water) with our only connection to the outside word being the internet, our publications and a road.

Our publishing and website management is in-house and therefore under the offgrid scenario, but our websites are currently hosted (in a server farm I guess so still needs work). Our mag is printed in Mid Wales by as green a printer firm as we can find and we are now beginning to offer our mag in a pdf option, especially good for those who live outside the UK but want to read our mag.

We have a no-travel policy and do not visit trade events, do not have remote meetings or do roaming journalism (occasionally journalists bring us stories from abroad but we do not send journalists out on location). We encourage regional reporting. We regularly refuse free offers to visit other parts of the UK or other countries to look at their fantastic green projects. We have turned down trips to Canada, Europe etc. We do not believe in courtship between the media and the subject matter. We only accept advertising following a strict code.
