I'm renovating an old flat in an even older building in Poland and was looking for some advice...
 
Excuse the long post but I will provide some information on which to base any considerations...
 
Climate;
Central European Climate
Winter -5 to -20 degrees Celsius
Summer 10 to 35 degrees Celsius
 
Building information;
3 floors including cellars, plus attic
Total of 5 flats, plus cellars and attic
Old, draughty, cold, very poorly insulated
literally freezing inside hall / communal areas in winter
 
Flat information;
Divided over two floors
Kitchen / Dining room in cellar - 20m2
2 bedrooms and bathroom on 1st floor - 43m2 incl. hall
High ceilings - 3.2m
Large windows - two 2mx2m in each room
Poorly insulated windows and doors
Has gas boiler providing DHW and CH
Chimneys in both bedrooms
5 large, but very old and poor radiators [upstairs]
Very cold in winter
 
Renovation goals;
Divide into two self-contained flats
We'll live upstairs and rent out downstairs
One in basement, one on 1st floor
Separate CH, DHW for the flats
Install kitchen in big bedroom / living room upstairs
Install new, energy efficient rads and windows
Convert downstairs into a kind of bedsit with own bathroom
 
Lifestyle info;
Up early, out all day, eat late, then wash and go to sleep
Occasionally in for lunch
Both bedrooms will be occupied but most time would be spent in the bigger bedroom / living room [as we have the tv!]
 
 
So, to the crux of my problem..
 
Ive been considering a range style cooker to heat the main room, provide CH and DHW and cooking facilities.
 
I don't know if this would suit our situation
 
Even if it did, I don't know how much i need of the following... Not even a ball park figure... :-(
Total kW / BTUs
Kw to water
Kw to room
Size of boiler
etc etc...
 
I have used many BTU calculators on the net and have received just as many different results, ranging from 10,000BTUs to 25,000BTUs; 3 radiators to 8, etc etc
 
Also, this may be jumping the gun a little, as I'm not even sure a stove cooker is for me, but I have been looking at the models available to me here in central europe, and I would love to hear from anyone who has any experience or knowledge of these models.
 
Perhaps someone could recommend a more suitable model??
