I am doing an extension and am thinking of installing a wood fired esse W23. My current set up is an oil fired combi boiler providing CH and DHW and my question is can I install a thermal store and have the esse and oil boiler piped into it. I only ask because I am aware that to use solid fuel with an oil boiler it is the general rule that the oil fired boiler must be in a vented system. Any help much appreciated.

I suggest you put the question to the manufacturers but my guess would be not to mix them but use a heat exchanger of some sort to for the oil boiler input for the sharing of heat. It should not be to hard to find an external heat exchanger but if the thermal stoe will be new then you could arrange for an adequately sized internal heat exchanger to be fitted..

my only issue is that the oil boiler is a combi.........will this make a difference?

It should not. remember that both systems will have, designed in, the ability to detect the heat requirement so, providing that you can find an installer willing to take the challenge then I don't see why you cannot proceed. The hard part might be finding an installer.
Warning. Don't go ahead and install anything based on what I have said here until a professional accepts, understands and is prepared to proceed with the idea.
