Earlier this year the Government revealed its plans for every home in the UK to have a Smart Meter by the end of 2020. It will enable suppliers to remotely record customers' gas and electricity use, doing away with meter readings, while householders will be able to see how much energy they are consuming.
It's pleasing to know that money and energy can be saved just through being able to see, and therefore being more aware of, how much electricity we use when we turn on domestic appliances.
Homeowners who have had SolarUK solar thermal systems installed have reported electricity savings too - as a result of getting electricity monitors, which helps make them realise that they sometimes use energy unnecessarily, or through other simple measures such as changing their lightbulbs to energy saving ones.

Wyland, I may be untypical but if I were looking for a solar thermal system I would ask for reccomendations and do some research. If I came across a company that used internet fora to hawk its products it would raise some difficult questions about why it would feel that such an action was appropriate.

The point I was making was that as homeowners if we can 'see' how much energy we are using, that in itself is enough to prompt us to use less of it.

Wyland, I understood the point you were making but not the need to reference a brand of solar thermal whose preferred marketing strategy appears to consist of mentioning in posts on internet fora whether it is relevant or not. As you are presuambly aware, in this context it isn't relevant - so why do it? If you want to flog these systems why not pay for advertising like everyone else does.
