Rainwater tank - water warm. Advice please

Hi, we are 6 months in our new house and have noticed that the esb bills seem rather high. We have a 9000litre rainwater harvesting tank. Have discovered that the water in the tank is quite warm. Would this be because of the pump? surely the pump should not be heating the water to such an extent? Am concerned that it is using a lot of energy and hence the esb bills. Any advice welcome! thanks.

Don't know the details of your sytem, but guess it's most unlikely to be the pump. Is the storage tank above ground and in the sun? Does the pump run for long periods?

It sounds to me like there is a problem, warm water and high bills.

can you read the meter two days running, switch off the pump and read the meter on the third day?

we have a rainwater harvesting system, 4500l, installed earlier in the year.

How did you establish that the water was warm, i.e. what are you using it for?

There are a couple of possibilities for pump running too long, the most obvious being a leak: but surely you would notice that.

Was the system professionally installed? If so ask them to come back and check it.
