Wind energy reaches record levels

The share of wind power within the UK’s generation mix reached a record high of 22 per cent on Sunday due to strong power output of almost 6 GW and typically low summer weekend demand. The new record share surpassed the 21 per cent stake wind held on Monday 11 August this year.

Uncertain future for community energy projects

The future of community-owned green energy projects that ministers say are crucial to break the dominance of the 'big six' is being put at risk by the Financial Conduct Authority, according to co-operatives and the Labour party. Thousands of towns and villages have clubbed together around the UK in recent years to set up energy co-ops to generate clean electricity from wind turbines and solar panels.

A new green housing development in Nottingham will be warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and cheap to run. All 21 units at Green Street phase two will achieve silver standard, as certified by the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB).

Social landlords combine to sell energy at cost price.

A nationwide consortium of housing associations plans to set up an energy company to help tenants cut spiralling household fuel bills. The Carbon Savings Alliance, a collective of 34 social landlords that own 357,000 homes between them, is in talks with an energy provider about creating an independent company to supply electricity to its tenants.

Labour re-affirms zero-carbon targets
