Q
I am looking for a safe alternative to Tanalised timber treatment. I have recently received information about TANALITH E by Hickson Timber which claims to be an environmentally safe product. Does anyone have any experience with this or other products?
A
Some people are sceptical about Hickson products but for internal timbers, or those used externally with a coating, boron based products are probably most suitable, IF YOU NEED TO TREAT AT ALL. However for fence posts etc this is more problematical. Naturally durable timbers are the best answer - but can be expensive.
Boron based preservatives are also available as gel or water soluble powder, just do a web search for 'Boron'.
