Europe's first green Mosque in Cambridge

“Every Mosque or building built by a Muslim should be ‘green,’ that is, friendly to the environment,” says Baraka Khan, the 23-year-old Cambridge University student who has launched a project to build Europe’s first ecologically friendly mosque in the city of Cambridge.

BRE launches new open air test facility

The BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials recently launched a new facility funded by the EPSRC to test low carbon construction materials and systems in realistic open-air conditions. The HIVE, based at the University of Bath’s Building Research Park, Swindon, is the first facility of its kind in the UK.

Old barracks become sustainable home

Recently, a local family purchased a decommissioned Essex air base intending to turn it into a sustainable farm. The land was dotted with old Nissen huts, still in good condition, and now one of the most significant collections of such buildings in the country, but lacked an actual farm house.
