National green energy charity Ashden is seeking entries for the 2015 Ashden Awards. Now in their 15th year, the Awards aim to uncover the most exciting green building pioneers from across the UK. Entry to the Awards is free, with winners to be presented with an award worth up to £20,000 at a ceremony in London on 11 June 2015.

Ashden is particularly interested in businesses, housing associations and public sector organisations that are helping retrofit existing housing stock, designing energy efficient buildings, changing residents’ behaviour and developing skills in installing renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

Winner of the 2014 Ashden Award for Sustainable Buildings was Hemcrete Projects, which is bringing the dream of zero-carbon buildings closer to reality with its mess-free, speedily installed, sustainable building panels made with hempcrete.

Winner of the International Sustainable Buildings Award was the Indian IT company Infosys, which has slashed $80 million of its electricity bill over 5 years by retrofitting existing buildings and designing new low-energy buildings for its business campuses across India.

In addition to prize money, Ashden offers winners a package of benefits and tailored support designed to help them scale up; a platform to promote their work through events and media coverage; short films about their work and introductions to potential funders and investors.

Said Ian McCarthy of Hemcrete Projects: “The award serves to acknowledge how effective systems such as Hemclad and Hembuild will be in relation to the future of sustainable and mainstream construction in this country.”

The Awards were set up in 2001 to champion practical, local energy solutions that cut carbon, protect the environment, reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. Since then Ashden has rewarded and supported more than 150 winners across the UK and the developing world.
