The very last paper edition of Green Building magazine has now been published and will soon be reborn as GBEzine. Like it's predecessor, GBEzine will be a powerful voice for appropriate, well considered eco-building.
The message from Green Building magazine over the years has been of base principles and fundamental, iconic philosophies that engender the protection of the environment and improved human health conditions whilst still providing high quality buildings.
"There are still many of us in the green building sector", said editor Keith Hall, "that firmly believe in a healthier, more caring and simpler way of creating buildings and communities. A way that honours and respects the environment, nurtures the local (vernacular) and puts less burden on the near, distant and far resources that are available to us. These principles are still so very important that GBEzine will easily take the message forward to the next generation - the message that 'less is more' and the message that 'common' and 'contemporary' can and should be questioned."
"Green building and green living have become such an intrinsic part of my everyday life" Hall continued, "that, regardless of all my other diverse interests, I cannot, and will not weaken my resolve to keep promoting this important subject. The world may turn to mush about me but the knowledge that, I for one, have gained in the years behind me are a knowledge that I wish to keep adding to and sharing. Every now and again a lifetime convert joins the green building brigade and never looks back. There is only one way and it is forward. So forward we go with the 'green building' banner waving proudly."
For Hall, GBEzine will certainly serve as a beacon, waved with rather than at the next generation, and waved in the face of a very uncertain future where progress and technology always promises better but often fails to deliver anything more than novel new ways of consumption. "Of course it goes without saying that in the many years that Green Building magazine was published we had heaps of fantastic and enthusiastic help and encouragement from professionals from right across all the building sectors as well as a very supportive readership. So I would like to offer a very big thank you to everyone I came in touch with including the current and previous contributors and advertisers - there were many hundreds of you. But I still want to hear more, much more from anyone that has green building in their heart as we go forward with the next digital phase of our publishing journey. Please take a little time to zoom across to our new website to see what we have there which will help you on your journey too!"
