Thirty-five green homes in The Meadows area of Nottingham have been snapped up within just six months going on sale. "There is a real interest in the clean and green lifestyle these properties offer, said the estate agent.

Peter Conboy, from specialist development company Blueprint said: "It's a testament to the strength of The Meadows as an up and coming residential area that more than half of the homes at Hobart & Pitcairn were sold off-plan within just two months of going on the market. The remainder followed within a few months."

Estate Agent Val Shakespeare said "There is a real interest in the clean and green lifestyle these properties offer, and buyers are breathing new life into this important part of Nottingham."

The houses were designed to achieve level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) and Building for Life Gold standard. They maximise use of natural light and minimise energy consumption and have levels of insulation and air tightness which exceed current building regulations. They also have whole-house ventilation systems and natural heat stacking to maximise warmth in winter and cooling in summer. The sustainability factor extends to building materials, with the red bricks being locally made in Leicester and all timber being FSC approved. All of the homes have ground-level court yards and large roof terraces, while most will also have balconies and private car ports/garages for parking.

The development has been designed to give residents the traditional values of urban street living - a place where people know their neighbours, are proud of their environment and can walk safely down well designed tree-lined streets next to a new traffic calmed access road. Further pedestrian links are also being provided.
