A new green housing development in Nottingham will be warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and cheap to run. All 21 units at Green Street phase two will achieve silver standard, as certified by the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB).
The AECB ensures best practice in environmentally sustainable building. The Silver Standard is aimed at those wishing to create high-performance buildings using widely available technology at little or no extra cost. This low-risk option reduces overall CO₂ emissions by 70% compared to the UK average for buildings of each type – a highly significant result given the relative ease and low cost with which this standard can be met. The AECB say that individual self-builders and large-scale residential and non-residential developers could make a valuable contribution to low-carbon building by meeting this standard.
Developed by specialist regeneration company Blueprint, all properties are individually accredited which means that despite different layouts and orientation, the whole scheme will meet the highest eco standards.
Although Green Street Phase Two has all but two homes reserved, prospective buyers are being encouraged to register interest for more similar homes just around the corner which will also reach silver standard.
Hobart Close, designed by architects Marsh Grochowski, comprises 35 homes similar in design and energy efficiency and will be released mid-September.
Pete Conboy, development director, said: “Building to silver standard is a stamp of assurance for buyers that the homes will have reduced CO2 emissions without compromising on cost. These properties at Green Street and Hobart Close will be affordable to run as well as looking fantastic and being environmentally friendly.”
Green Street Phase Two also includes seven custom-build plots, which has enabled purchasers to take a signature house type and customise internal room layouts, fittings and renewable technologies as appropriate. Close to the city centre, many of the new homes have stunning views across the Victoria Embankment park and its riverside walks.
Working with Nottingham City Council and builder William Davis Ltd, the developer is helping to regenerate the area with contemporary, sustainable design and very low energy occupier costs. Since the original Green Street Phase One, the Meadows has become much sought-after by buyers seeking high quality homes, appealing to professional couples, young families and downsizers.
Stephen Fisher, business development manager, added: “The level of interest in these energy-efficient homes has been exceptional and we are confident this is a result of bespoke design and location. With work progressing on schedule at Green Street Phase Two and Hobart Close, we look forward to bringing a wide variety of quality homes that are wholly compliant with modern, sustainable living to this area of Nottingham.”
Work on phase two is expected to be completed in December, while the Hobart development is due to be finished in summer 2015. Prices for the three and four-bedroom homes at Hobart will range from around £150,000 to £250,000
