Internal toxic smell

I have a small house in France made of stone and blockwork. The roof has 2 bedrooms and a showerroom. The chemical smell in the roof area makes my eyes water and throat tingle. As I go upstairs its like entering a chemical soup. In 2 weeks a roofer arrives to put in dormer windows which I hope will circulate the air a bit. But please has anyone an idea what the smell can be how I can check what it is and should I remove the insulation and start again. One bedroom seems worse than the other rooms. I dont think its the septic tank as there isn't a smell in the downstairs loo and there is a pipe which I think exits the fumes. Today its raining and cold but I have to have the 3 roof windows open to breathe properly. If anyone knows how I sort this , experience of doing it in France would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I had a similar problem,
in my case one of the radiator Thermostatic valves was leaking and the inhibitor, in the heating system, when in contact with the air seemed to cause the problem - worth checking your radiators and pipes I guess
good luck

I dislike strong smells, and empathise with you.

I found on a website (building pathologist Mike Parrett) info that smell might be due to
- blocked airbricks
- leaking pipes
underneath the floor

It would interest me, to hear what the reason was.

finny
cheese..tons of it over there..best bet is get out before they make you surrender!
