Yorkshire Farmers Find Many Homes For Hemp

Once farmers had to grow it by Royal decree to ensure Britain ruled the waves. But hemp, the plant said to have 25,000 uses, including making ropes and sails, has long since fallen out of fashion. Now a Yorkshire family farming business is not only cultivating hemp but are turning it into modern-day eco-building materials.

New guidance on waste gypsum

New science confirms there is no acceptable limit for gypsum to be deposited with biodegradable waste. Firms dealing with gypsum waste, such as plasterboard and plaster, are being encouraged to recycle and reuse more as new guidance on gypsum going to landfill was recently announced by the Environment Agency.

OSB. Is it greener than plywood? Greenpeace think so.

A Guide published by Greenpeace in August, titled: 'Setting a New Standard: Alternatives to unsustainable plywood in the UK construction industry', has cited FSC certified Oriented Strand Board (OSB) as one of the most environmentally sound alternatives to non-FSC certified plywood for all manner of building projects.
