A consultation launched last week by the Environment Agency aims to discover how the Agency and its sister organisations Natural England and the Forestry Commission can further improve or refine their services to those involved in the development sector. Responses are sought from all builders and developers.

The three organisations are consulting externally for 6 weeks with developers and other organisations on the joint document called: Building a better environment.
'Building a better environment' is aimed at developers, including small and medium-sized enterprises, across England. It will also be of interest to those involved in the wider development process, for example architects, town planners, surveyors, engineers, landscape architects and consultants. It has been prepared jointly by the Environment Agency, Natural England and the Forestry Commission.
These government bodies are sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and play important roles in protecting and enhancing the environment. This document has been produced following customer feedback and continued input will be welcomed to keep the information current and helpful.
The information within this document is intended as a resource to refer to. It has been designed to provide a ‘first stop’ for information to help make the most of any development for people and the environment. The document signposts to more technical advice where applicable.
Julie Foley, the Environment Agency’s Head of Sustainable Places, said: “We want to help enable growth and new development, whilst protecting and enhancing the environment. This document will help developers to find the advice they need, reducing the costs and time spent associated with development proposals”.
Rob Cooke, Natural England’s Director of Land Use, said: “Good, early dialogue between developers and agencies is vital for a smooth planning process. It supports sustainable development and ensures the best possible results for the environment. This document is aimed at helping to promote that dialogue.”
