The Green Register turned 15 last month, and kicked off celebrations with an exciting event at Bristol Aquarium on Thursday 22 October.

Guests - including many of the “great and the good” of the UK’s growing sustainable building world - were welcomed with tea and crumpets and the chance to explore the underwater world of the Aquarium before making their way upstairs to the rooftop training room.

Bristol’s Lord Mayor formally opened the event recognising the role The Green Register has played locally and nationally in advancing understanding of green building.

This was followed by a series of short, practical ‘taster’ sessions that underlined the importance of moisture control, air tightness and heat loss and illustrated the type of technical advice offered at seminars. Examples included the latest technical information from Ecological Building Systems, thermography trainers iRed and the benefits of WUFI software from NBT.

Brian Murphy and Simon Reid, longstanding members of The Green Register, gave short but heartfelt talks about their experiences of membership.

Lucy Pedler, The Green Register’s Director, said “We were absolutely delighted to celebrate with so many of our members and guests at the Bristol celebration - it makes all our hard work worthwhile and we had some terrific feedback about our plans for the next 15 years.”

Murphy, one of The Green Register’s longest serving members, said: “Dignitaries, familiar faces, crumpets, tea and a goodie bag, what more could you ask for?”

The Green Register is celebrating 15 years of sustainable construction training, membership and networking opportunities to the UK construction industry.

Pedler created The Green Register in 2000 as part of her lifelong commitment to green building. From a desk in her spare bedroom, The Green Register has grown to be what Lucy had hoped it would be - a nationwide organisation promoting sustainable construction practices.

The Green Register also held a follow-up event to mark this achievement on 12 November in London to celebrate with even more members, delegates, partners and trainers alike.

Pedler concluded the events by saying “I am thrilled that we can hold these celebratory events open to everyone. It is an opportunity to showcase what we have achieved in the past but just as importantly, to demonstrate our exciting plans for the next fifteen years.”
