How residents of Bath can cut energy bills |

Council chiefs are upping the ante in the campaign to get Bathonians to make their homes more energy efficient. Bath and North East Somerset Council is urging people to get involved in the national Big Energy Saving Week this week.

The aim of the initiative organised by the Citizens Advice charity is to help people to cut their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
Council leader Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib Dem, Southdown) said: "At a time when energy prices are rising, Big Energy Saving Week is a fantastic opportunity for people to take control of their energy bills, while keeping their homes warm and comfortable. Bath and North East Somerset Council is working hard with our local public and private sector partners to support communities to adapt to changes in our climate and become less dependent on high carbon energy."
The authority has suggested people take advantage of the Home Energy Advice Line on 0800 082 2234 to get advice on reducing bills, and to find out if they are eligible for grants or support to make their home more energy efficient.
They can also pick up leaflets at the council's Manvers Street one stop shop or Bath Central Library.
The library and others in B&NES also lend electricity monitors for free for three weeks, with their use likely to trim up to 15 per cent off power costs.
B&NES was also organising an energy awareness workshop this morning, and there is detailed energy-saving advice on the Big Energy Saving Week website on www.bigenergysavingweek.co.uk.
People driven to spread the word about energy efficiency can apply for a Local Energy Champions Award – a £400 grant towards activities that will reduce carbon emissions.
