The happy residents of Green Street, a development of eco homes in the Meadows area of Nottingham, have celebrated the completion of the project with a party in their new street.
Residents celebrate their new Green Street

Householders from the 38 homes in the development joined developers, Blueprint, to toast the success of the Green Street scheme.

Nick Ebbs, speaking for the developers, said: "This is the moment when we hand over the development to the people who live here, but we will be staying in touch. This is a celebration of one hugely successful project. It's also a celebration of future possibility. We have learnt a lot from Green Street, and have proven that there is a healthy market for architect-designed, low energy homes. We are looking to build on this applying those lessons to new projects in the years ahead."

One Green Street resident, Cath Sutherland, said: "The property itself is fantastic. It's so light and warm. We really landed on our feet.''

The three and four bedroom homes are super-insulated, with wall 'u' vales of 0.13, roof values of 0.11, floors 0.15, windows 0.12 and floors 0.11. The roofs come with a 4Kwh solar photovoltaic array as standard, reducing the amount of electricity which is drawn from the national grid and allowing the householders to claim the Feed-In Tariff, estimated to be worth around £400 a year.

Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation systems are also standard, with summer cooling facilitated by allowing air to enter at ground level via vents, circulate through the house and leave via second floor windows.

Heating is by efficient A rated combi gas boiler, and all lighting is by low energy LED systems.

Building materials were chosen to be as environmentally friendly as possible with all timber being FSC certified

Green Street bucked market trends last year as its mix of three-and-four bed contemporary town houses were snapped up at a phenomenal rate, establishing clear market demand in Nottingham for a new era of design-led eco homes.

Following this initial success the company is now working on plans for more urban sustainable homes project on other Nottingham sites, and potentially further afield.
