Birmingham residents are to benefit from funding to make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to heat thanks to a scheme which will see green upgrades carried out at nearly 300 council properties in the city.

Birmingham City Council has teamed up with regeneration specialist Keepmoat to carry out improvements to 267 council homes in the Bartley Green and Quinton area, as part of the Government’s Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).
Work is set to begin on the energy saving scheme this month, unlocking £2.8 million of funding to deliver the green energy improvements which will help residents save up to £1,250 on their fuel bills every year.
CESP is a Government-backed initiative that funds improvements on eligible properties, including solid wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, boiler replacements and window replacements.
Jake Fellows, Keepmoat’s Commercial Manager, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Birmingham City Council on this programme which will make a huge difference to residents by keeping them warmer in the winter and saving them money on their fuel bills.
“It might sound too good to be true but it is a free scheme and there isn’t a catch, we really are offering up to £10,000 improvements per household, free of charge.
“Not only are we working with the council, but we also want to approach private homeowners and tenants with our offering, making us the only tenure blind provider of CESP in the city of Birmingham.”
A spokesman for Birmingham City Council said: “This project is another good example of how working in partnership can bring green improvements to people’s homes. Not only will residents be helping to save energy in their homes, they will also be able to take advantage of the prospect of lower fuel bills.”
Homeowners are set to receive a letter from Keepmoat with more information about the improvements on the scheme ‘Why shell out?’ which features tortoise ‘Cosy Colin’.
